Özet
This research explores the gender-specific aspects of remote work in Turkey through a comprehensive systematic literature review covering 2003 to 2024. Using the PRISMA framework, the study analyzes 15 peer-reviewed articles to shed light on how traditional gender roles intersect with new work practices. The results indicate that remote work is not gender-neutral but is embedded within prevailing socio-cultural frameworks that sustain unequal labour divisions. Although remote work offers theoretical flexibility, empirical findings show that traditional gender expectations continue to be reinforced, with women bearing a disproportionate share of domestic and caregiving tasks alongside their professional duties. The COVID-19 pandemic heightened these inequalities, as the merging of work and home spaces intensified women’s “double burden.” While quantitative data suggest a slight rise in men’s involvement in household chores during this period, qualitative insights reveal little change in the fundamental gendered division of labor. The study calls for multi-level policy responses, including organizational adoption of gender-sensitive remote work policies, increased government investment in care services, and educational programs to challenge deep-seated gender stereotypes. As digital transformation accelerates in the post-pandemic era, addressing these structural inequalities is vital for promoting gender equality within Turkey’s evolving labor market.
