Özet
This study aims to examine the fundamental ideological principles upon which the republican regime was based and the role undertaken by the press in ensuring the assimilation of these principles by society. Through the articles penned by Yunus Nadi between 1930 and 1932, the research analyzes how Atatürk’s principles and reforms were defined within the framework of the 1931 program of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the nature of the development model these principles presented, and how they guided the modernization process. The study demonstrates, through the editorials of the Cumhuriyet newspaper, that the founding ideology of the Republic was a nation-state project that transcended a classical understanding of nationalism; rather, it prioritized secularism, scientific rationality, and modernization, aiming for social cohesion and economic development through the principles of populism and statism. In the study, which was prepared utilizing a qualitative research method, the editorials were analyzed thematically. Frequently reiterated concepts, discourse patterns, and ideological references were identified, and the traces of ideological formation were pursued by considering both the explicit and implicit contents of the articles. The ensuing findings were compared with the resolutions of the 1931 congress of the Republican People’s Party, establishing that the editorials were authored on selected subjects in accordance with a specific objective and orientation, and that they served as crucial instruments in introducing the principles and values of the Republic to the public.
