Özet

Sustainable development includes a set of administrative, economic, environmental, and social conditions and objectives to ensure sustainability. The complex structure seen in the socioeconomic development process in our country poses important threats for consumption/use pressure on natural resources and ecosystem in the spatial development of cities. Social, economic, and spatial change/transformation seen in urban areas as a result of industrialization and urbanization movements that started in the 1950s and accelerated in the 1980s caused rural areas to enter a different change/transformation process as reserve housing and reinforcement areas to support this change and growth. In addition, the incompatibility between the regional and urban scale plan decisions prepared in this process brought an unsustainable administrative process in land use. In this context, planning policies and actions should be examined first in order to ensure development in line with the principles of sustainability at the urban and regional scale. In this study, the policies and planning approaches of the relevant plan period for Tekirdag province, which showed the fastest increase in urbanization rate in Thrace between 1970 and 1990, were examined and inferences were made within the scope of the principles established to measure the capacity to implement sustainability.
