Özet

This study was designed as a descriptive study, to analyze the sensitivities of the nurses working in the surgical services of a state hospital on patient rights. The universe of the study consisted of 61 nurses working in the surgical services of a state hospital while the sample of the study consisted of 54 nurses volunteered to participate in the study between July 26 and October 1, 2010. The data of the study were collected with the personal information form and the Belief of Patient Rights Form (BPRF). In the statistical analysis of the results, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H tests were used. The mean total score of BFRF of the nurses was 32.85 ± 6.66; the differences between the nurses’ scores on the BFRF and the subscales of privacy and private life and application were significant according to their ages (p < 0.05); the difference between the nurses’ scores on the consent subscale was significant according to their education levels (p < 0.05). It was determined that the surgical nurses who were 29 years old or younger, university graduates, had less than 5 years’ study period and took courses on patient rights, had high sensitivity to patients’ rights. It can be recommended to add related courses in the curriculum during the education and to plan training programs by considering age group, the level of education, working time and the status of taking related courses, for improving nurses’ sensitivity to patient rights.
