Özet

In tourism research, destination image models encompass three dimensions (cognitive, emotive, and overall) that can significantly influence tourist behavior and decision-making processes. Preliminary findings from early marketing and psychology studies indicate that destination image models comprise cognitive, emotional, and conative components, collectively shaping visitors’ overall views and intents to visit. While these models clarify many customer perspectives of the destination and their complicated interrelations, they possess certain shortcomings, such as simplifying sophisticated interactions into linear linkages and facing operationalization challenges. In the tourism and hospitality sector, it plays a crucial role, as it directly influences marketing efforts, customer persuasion, and commitment. The growing significance of emotive experiences in shaping destination image and influencing travelers’ perceptions and attitudes will compel future research to incorporate emotional components into their destination image frameworks. Experimental research in the 21st-century destination marketing campaigns, particularly the utilization of advanced technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), will generate new insights into whether and how simulated experiences influence destination image and, subsequently, cognitive and emotional tourist perceptions.
